Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has prepared a road map for the development of maritime sector based on marine, harbor and shipyard- technology.
BPPT’s Deputy Chairman for Industrial Technology Design and Engineering Erzi Agson Gani said the road map contains national maritime industry development plan.
Indonesia’s maritime sector has tremendous potential that has yet to be fully explored until now. "Indonesia’s maritime potential is not only its blue sea, but also everything underwater such as fishes, as well as other potential such as marine tourism, which have not been optimally explored" said Erzi during National Technology Congress (KTN) 2016 on maritime sector in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/7).
According to him, Indonesia needs to improve marine transportation industry, marine services and ports in order to realize the country’s maritime-axis vision. "The Goal of this road map is to increase the Indonesian maritime industry’s competitiveness to become the world’s top 10 in 2040,” he said.
Ezri added that the roadmap includes tanker design and harbor technology with target of one day domestic dweling time. Currently BPPT maritime technologies for monitoring fish potential has been applied.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs’ Deputy III for Infrastructure and Resource Coordination Ridwan Jamaluddin said the maritime-axis concept will apply development acceleration and equalization development, because our future lies on the sea.
"Currently most of potential resource is in the sea, but have not been fully explored ," he said.
Therefore, the management should be based on sound science and technology. We still have a great deal of work to be done in maritime sector and the maritime axis program to improve. (Translator: Sugiarti)
