Jakarta, InfoPublik - The UN's eighth Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon is optimistic that Indonesia, as the G20 Presidency, will be able to play a major role in elevating issues related to climate change and peace in the Asian region in the near future.
"Indonesia can play a greater role in the issue of climate change and peace in the Asian region," said Ban Ki-Moon as quoted on the wapresri.go.id page on Monday, March 14.
The relevant government agencies must implement the road map that was produced through the UN conference on climate change conducted in Bali, also known as the Bali Roadmap, in reference to Indonesia's involvement in climate change in the Asian region, said the UN Secretary-General.
"Efforts to save the earth from the impacts of climate change have been made through the Bali Road Map," he said. Ban Ki-Moon also hoped that through this event, Indonesia will be able to raise a number of regional security issues to discussions amongst developed countries.
"I believe that Indonesia, with its diverse experiences, can demonstrate strong leadership in promoting regional peace," Ban Ki-Moon stated.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stated Indonesia will encourage the G20 to generate concrete deliverables to help developing, small, and archipelagic countries develop.
In addition, the Vice President stated that three priority issues, namely Strengthening Global Architecture, Digital Transformation, and Energy Transition would be discussed during the forum, which will be attended by 20 of the world's largest economies.
"These three issues are strategically important in promoting an inclusive global recovery, responding to the needs of developing nations, and planning for a more sustainable future," he said.
On that occasion, the Vice President also praised Ban Ki-Moon's leadership in the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Ban Ki-Moon Center for Global Citizens.
"We expect that the Government of Indonesia and GGGI would work closely together, as specified in the Country Program Framework 2021—2025," he said.
From 2017 to 2018, Ban Ki-Moon served as the Co-Chair of the Ban Ki-Moon Center for Global Citizens. From 2018 till the present, he has been serving as President of the Assembly and Chairman of the Board of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
