Jakarta, InfoPublik - Saudi Arabia will again distribute free copies of the Qur'an and dates to the people of Indonesia. This distribution was marked by the launch of the Saudi Dates and the Qur'an Distribution in Indonesia program.

The launch of this program was attended by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Shaykh, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia Sheikh Essam bin Abid Al-Thaqafi and Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, represented by Director General for Islamic Community Guidance Kamaruddin Amin.

The Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Guidance Adib said in an official broadcast released by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Sunday, 27 March, that the Saudi Government's distribution of free copies of the Quran and dates has become a routine program, especially ahead of Ramadan. Last year, 100 tons of dates and 10,000 copies of the Quran were delivered.

Sheikh Abdullatif said that King Salman had ordered the printing press in Medina to produce extra Quran to be delivered to Muslim communities around the world during his speech at Istiqlal Mosque following Friday prayers.

Normally, only eight million copies of the Quran are printed each year; however, that amount has recently been expanded to twenty million. He continued, "It will be distributed in the Prophet's Mosque, Mecca's Great Mosque, and mosques all throughout the world."
