Nusa Dua, InfoPublik - Efforts to preserve ocean ecosystems from various threats became the focus of discussion in the Our Ocean Youth Leadership Summit, which was held as a part of the 2018 Our Ocean Conference (OOC).

"Your presence in the 2018 [OOC] shows that we, the government of Indonesia and other countries who have loved and preserve the ocean, care very much about the future generations; they are you, the future leaders," Marine and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said in her welcome speech for the Youth Leader Summit.

Susi also shared her experience developing her fishing business, which she established at a very young age. "It began with a dream to develop the Indonesian fishing sector. I used all my capability and confidence to face various challenges," she said, adding that creativity, expertise and an extensive education mean nothing if they are not balanced by hard work.

"You must work hard to achieve success.”

Themed, Our Ocean, Our Legacy, the 2018 OOC emphasized that the ocean needed more young leaders with the strong will to continue what had been initiated by their predecessors.

"This Bali meeting will be [an asset] for you in the future," Susi told the young audience.
