Jakarta, InfoPublik – The government is increasing Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) protection. It is realized by implementing service improvement program at the border and TKI pocket areas by building one stop integrated services (LTSA).
Sujatmiko, Coordinating Human Development and Cultural Affairs Ministry’s deputy for the coordination of women and children protection, said it is mandated by Law Number 18 of 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers. Its objective is to realize effective placement and protection services for migrant worker recruits.
"It provides efficiency and transparency on the placement documents processing and improves the service quality for migrant workers recruits. The target of LTSA development in 2018 is 52 locations," Sujatmiko said on Wednesday (1/24).
It was first launched by the Coordinating for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Minister Puan Maharani on Feb. 16, 2016 in Nunukan, North Kalimantan. In 2017, LTSAs were built in Brebes, Cilacap, Pati, Tulungagung, Kendal, Sambas, West Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok, and Sumbawa. Several areas are still in preparation process.
Sujatmiko said his office has tried to provide the best services for the workers. In addition, the bill that has been approved by the House of Representatives makes the legal basis stronger.
“Therefore, we must keep our focus and work together in improving the protection for the workers. I hope the improvement of migrant workers management and services in the Indonesian migrant workers’ border and pocket areas can run smooth," he concluded. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
