Jakarta, InfoPublik - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said the ongoing Ciliwung River normalization and the drains cleaning activities has decreased flood-prone areas number.
"In fact, we are sure that flood prone areas in Jakarta will be reduced significantly by the end of 2017," said Ahok—as he commonly known—at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (8/22).
He added drains and reservoirs are also continued to be cleaned, so the water can flow smoothly.
"Currently, flood-prone areas in Jakarta have begun to decrease and floods have rapidly receded. Please take a look. The inundated areas are now free from flood," he said.
Nevertheless, he said, there are still some flood-prone areas due to its low altitude. In addition, some buildings have disrupted the drains.
"There are still some flood-prone areas, because the buildings disrupt the drains. Besides, Jakarta is located in a low area. But at least, flood-prone points have begun to decreased," he said. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
