Jakarta, InfoPublik -  Indonesian Navy chief Admiral Yudo Margono, accompanied by the Military commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, presented in a hearing before the House of Representatives (DPR) on Thursday, 6 May.

The hearing attended by DPR deputy speaker, Commission I speaker Meutya Viada Hafid, and members of 9 factions discussed three agendas, namely KRI Nanggala-402 accident, Navy current main weapons, and its modernization plan, especially submarines.

Admiral Yudo explained the chronological events of the accident, starting from the submarine preparation stage through a missing declaration to the searching process.

He said the torpedo shooting exercise is a routine aimed to maintain personnel skills. SUT torpedo shooting both using warhead and exercise head with various targets including surface ships was frequently conducted by KRI Nanggala-402, even 17 times.

The submarine had been sinking a target in an exercise off the coast of Bali.

“KRI Nanggala-402 is fit to carry out the exercise as it has passed battle rehearsal level I and level II as requirements for a ship to carry out level III, integrated rehearsal,” said the Navy chief.

He also reported the sub's maintenance history from 2012 to 2021 in which it underwent an overhaul in South Korea in 2012. Every year, it took mid-level maintenance and docking at Main Command Base up to 2020 to prepare for the 2021 exercise.

The Navy had also carried out posthumous medal awarding and rank promotion for the crews as well as assistance for their families, including moral support, child scholarship, and house provision.

The chiefs were accompanied by the Navy's hydrographic and oceanographic commander Vice Adm. Agung Prasetiawan, planning and finance assistant Rear Adm. Muhammad Ali, operation assistant Rear Adm. Didik Setiyono, logistics assistant Rear Adm. Puguh Santoso, 2nd Fleet commander Rear Adm. Iwan Isnurwanto, Staff and Command School commander Vice Adm.
