Jakarta, InfoPublik - Terrorism is a crime against humanity that threatens the state’s security and directly impacts the economy, and affects tourism and investment.
"Therefore, all elements of the nation, religious leaders, community, village officials including national defense and security elements such as the military and police shall participate in facing terrorism. However, the involvement of the Indonesian Military (TNI) should be enacted in a single Anti-Terrorism Act in order not to violate human rights," explained a House of Representative’s Commission I member, also member of the Special Committee of Anti-terrorism Act, Martin Hutabarat in Jakarta, Monday (7/25).
The act of terrorism is terrifying, so that unity of all elements of the nation is neededin facing it. According to him, terrorism cannot solely be handled by the police as terrorists are doing crimes in various ways. "The police alone is insufficient to face terrorist attack," he said.
In fact, the TNI's involvement is in accordance with the 2004 TNI Law which states the force could be involved in non-military operations including anti-terrorism operations. Thus, the Anti-Terrorism Act is only needed to set cooperation between the military and Police. The role of the National Police and the TNI will be further improved. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
