Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesian and Malaysian governments will hold a meeting to discuss the Outstanding Boundary Problems (OBP) in Manado, North Sulawesi on August 29, 2016.
The meeting will be conducted in the 9th Joint Working Group on Outstanding Boundary Problems (JWG-OBP). "Hopefully the meeting will result in immediate commitment to resolve east sector of Kalimantan,” said National Agency for Border Management (BNPP) Acting Secretary Hadi Prabowo in his office, Tuesday (8/2).
According to Hadi, the five OBP in the east sector are on the border between East Kalimantan, Indonesia and Sabah, Malaysia.
He said the five OBPs are Sebatik Island, Sinapad River, Simantipal River along point B.2700- B.3100 and point C.500- C.600. In addition to the east sector, Hadi said there are also four other OBPs in the west sector. They are Batu Aum, Raya Mount i, point D.400, and Buan River.
He added that the boundary settlement between Indonesia and Malaysia on Kalimantan so far has been slow in progress due to perception differences related to the agreement. For example, at the 8th JWG-OBP meeting, the Malaysian side had agreed not to discuss the Treaty of 1891.
In addition, Malaysia has also been agreed with the sector and SOP offered by Indonesia. Previously, the discussion about OBP between Indonesia and Malaysia has been discussed based on the border agreement between the British Government and the Dutch East Indies Government through the Treaty of 1891, and the 1915 and 1928 Convention.
