Jakarta, InfoPublik - Sexual crimes against children are extraordinary crimes, as stated by President Joko Widodo after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday (5/10), at the State Palace, Jakarta.
"Lately, sexual crimes against children increase significantly. Earlier in the meeting, we discussed that sexual crimes against children must be stated as an extraordinary crime," declared President Joko Widodo related to sexual violence against children that attract attention lately.
In addition to stating the crime as an extraordinary crime, President Joko Widodo also expected extraordinary measures, approaces, and actions from all elements, both from the government and the community for such cases.
"Therefore, the measures taken must also be carried out in extraordinary ways. Our attitude and actions must also be extraordinary. I have instructed the National Police Chief and the Attorney General that this matter should be followed up immediately and firmly in accordance with existing rules,” he added.
The President stated that the legal framework regarding the management of such cases is currently being prepared; the draft of government regulation or revision of Acts related to the management of the sexual crime cases.
The President also said that the government regulation or the revision of related Act is just being processed. The most important thing for the president is that the management of the cases must be carried out in ways that are extraordinary.
When being asked about the completion target of the regulation, the President expected that the government regulation or the revision of relevant Act would be completed as soon as possible. "As quickly as possible," he said while closing the press conference. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
