Jakarta, InfoPublik - Mount Sinabung in Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, spews a column of volcanic ash up to 2,500 meters.
The activity was reported by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) on Monday, 10 May.
PVMBG official Muhammad Asrori said the eruption took place at 7:47 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (UTC +7).
Mr. Asrori reported a thick grey ash column leaned toward south and west.
"The eruption is recorded with the amplitude of 115 mm with a duration of 4 minutes and 6 seconds," he said.
He prohibited citizens and tourists from entering recommended Sinabung danger zone because the threat is still high and eruptions with the hot clouds can occur at any time.
He also urged residents to keep on wearing masks while outside the house to prevent Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) and eye irritation caused by the ash.
"The status of Mount Sinabung is still in alert level III," he said.
