Bio Farma Prepares 18 Million Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine for May 2021

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Bio Farma states that they have prepared 16 to 18 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by May 2021 from April 2020 production.

The Government Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination from Bio Farma Bambang Heriyanto said that the number is part of the target of 47 million doses from 59.5 million doses of Sinovac's bulk production.

"We hope it to pass the test and get lot release from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) in May 2021," said Bambang through an official statement Thursday (4/29).

He explained, out of the target of 47 million doses, Bio Farma has produced approximately 41 million doses up to this point. BPOM has released 25 million doses ff the 41 million doses.

Ministry of Health has distributed 22.5 million doses out of 25 million doses to all provinces in Indonesia. Those are the additional doses outside the three million doses of CoronaVac previously distributed, as well as 1.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

He explained, of the 59.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccine processed by Bio Farma in stages, it is estimated that we will get 47 million doses into multi-dose packs.

"In the production process, starting from homogenization, filling, and packing, some are wastage. That is normal. For example, there is some left in the hose or the tank,” said Bambang.

The Sinovac vaccine produced by Bio Farma has an overfill or extra volume of vaccine that is prepared to anticipate the filling process into multi-dose vial packages.
