Jakarta, InfoPublik - As many as 820 athletes, trainers and support personnel in the DKI Jakarta area are targeted to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 26 February.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the administration of the vaccine is part of government’s effort to safeguard the health of athletes and others involved during the pandemic particularly for those who will be participating in various sports events.
"Vaccination of these athletes is a priority, especially for those who will be participating in various sports events, both domestic and global. Sports events still happening despite coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, the government must anticipate to avoid the athletes from being infected with COVID-19," said the Vice President.
Furthermore, he stated that the provision of vaccines for athletes is a support as well as a commitment from the government to the sporting communities.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that currently there are only a very limited supplies of COVID-19 vaccines. For this reason, the government prioritizes vaccines for those who are at the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19 including athletes, coaches and support staff.
Indonesian badminton player Jonatan Christie said he was happy and enthusiastic about receiving this first stage of the COVID-19 vaccine.
"After being vaccinated, I didn't feel any side effects from the vaccination, only slightly sore for a moment. So, don't hesitate to get vaccinated because the vaccine has been proven safe for the body," he said. (Photo: Ministry of Health)
