Jakarta, InfoPublik - Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono expected that the Seismic Hazard Map could accelerate recent government’s rapid infrastructure development.
"We will be able to justify risk, strengthen governance, stimulate sustainable investment, and increase disaster mitigation ability," Minister Basuki said in a press release on Tuesday (9/5).
According to him, the quinquennial update becomes a reference for planning, implementation, and supervision of quake-proof building development. The cartography refers to the Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) and Deterministic Seismic Hazard Analysis (DSHA) concepts using all data and information as well as the current methods for Indonesia region.
In the 2010 Map, there were 81 active faults that could trigger earthquakes. Recently, however, there are 295 active faults found. Although the quantity of active fault increases, it does not mean that infrastructure development will be slowed down. Projects can still be implemented only with careful calculation.
"It does not mean the development should be halted. The latest data could increase safety standards used," he concluded.
