Jakarta, InfoPublik – The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IV and the government discussed climate change negative effects mitigation in agriculture zone.

"We are going to hold a hearing on this issue. It is important for us and the government to discuss it," Commission IV vice chair Herman Khaeron said in a meeting at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Monday (4/10).

He stated that the current climate conditions have negative effects on agriculture zones which are prone to droughts, floods, and natural disasters. Therefore, all related ministries and agencies must take comprehensive measures on this issue.

The meeting, he continued, can push all stakeholders, particularly the government to work together to mitigate it. “Through the meeting, we can integrate ministries’ programs on climate with food issues,” he said

“Flood management also needs special attention, as mandated by law on food which clearly states that food is a human right. We must not let the climate change effects on the country threaten national food security.”

"It needs a hard work to supply the food demand from 250 million Indonesian citizens," he concluded. (Translator: Rina Alexandra)
