Jakarta, InfoPublik – Manpower Minister Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri stated the importance of creating vocational education and training in campuses to answer the needs of the working industry.
According to President Jokowi’s directive, it is important to accelerate the implementation of vocational education and training program that has competency standards.
The goal is to meet the industrial demand for skillful human resources, Hanif said in the discussion on “The Role of University and Local Government in SDG’s Achievements” organized by the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID) at Hotel JS Luansa, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/4).
This program is to facilitate those ineligible to enlist in school for their age, who could not register in state vocational school (SMK), having no highschool degree, and those lacking of skills.
Therefore, this program is to help them gaining specific skill to be easily absorbed by the labor market or to be enterpreneur, he said.
The INFID was attended by rectors from renowned universities accross Indonesia, such as Dwikorita Karnawati of Gadjah Mada University, Dwia Aries Tina of Hasanuddin University, Ravik Karsidi of Sebelas Maret University, and Yudian Wahyudi of Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University.
On the occasion, Hanif invites all stakeholders to encourage the private sector and industry involvement in developing standards, curriculum and instructors to achieve accelerated vocational training. "We expect to have skillfull and expert workforces relevant to market as the result of this program," he said. (Translator: Rina Alexandra)
