Sorong, InfoPublik - Sorong regent Dr. Stepanus Malak emphasized that forest utilization was aimed to empower Papuan economy.
“Moreover, the community has utilized the forest optimally, especially to meet daily needs," Mr. Malak said in Aimas district, Sorong regency, West Papua province on Wednesday (6/8).
All parties including the central government who recently issued a regulation complicating the community’s forest management must understand this.
He underlined the central government had never considered local’s forest utilization in which the community had been participated to manage forest resources.
He reiterated a number of local regulations had included the interests and the needs of the community equally.
For example, unlike previous policy, forestry industry can now be done locally. Previously, the raw materials must be shipped to Java for processing; as a result, a few members of local community were empowered. (MC.Sorong/rim/toeb/Translator:Filmon Warouw)
