Jakarta, InfoPublik-General Election Commission (KPU) urged officers responsible for verifying and updating voters’ data (coklit officers) to work well or be subject to sanctions.
"We severely warned them to work diligently. If they don't, there will be sanctions. Therefore, we suggested them to organize the data into groups," said KPU chairman Arief Budiman, in his press statement, Tuesday (12/03).
Arief explained that there are several types of sanctions. Draft KPU Regulation Article 177 b specifies criminal sanctions and fines.
The article provides that the officers of the polling committees (PPS), members of the subdistrict polling committees (PPK), members of regent/municipal KPU, and members of provincial KPU who intentionally committed acts against the law by failing to verify and recapitulate the voter data and lists, as referred to in Article 58 of Law Number 10 of 2016, shall be sentenced to a minimum of 24-month and a maximum of 72-month imprisonment and shall be subject to a fine of a minimum of IDR 24 million and a maximum of IDR 72 million.
He added that all who have the right to vote must be listed on the voters’ data and be properly recorded. Moreover, the data’s accuracy relates to logistics provision efficiency.
"By learning from the experience, hopefully, there will be no shortage of logistics. In case there is a shortage, the number would be very small," he concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara) |
