Jakarta, InfoPublik – The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) plenary session officially inaugurated Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin as President and Vice President on Sunday (20/10), after obtaining the most votes during the presidential election that was held on April 2019.
The inauguration of both elected state leaders was on the agenda of MPR plenary session which was carried out around 15.30 WIB. The event commenced by the reading of excerpts from the official result of General Elections Commission (KPU) on elected President and Vice President through the 2019 presidential election. Based on the vote tally of KPU, the 2019 presidential election’s result showed that the number 01 candidate pair, Joko Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin came out as the winner with 85,607,362 votes or 55.50 percent of votes.
Meanwhile, the number 02 candidate pair, Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno was recorded of obtaining 68,650,239 or 44.50 percent of votes. The reading of the decision was intended to be the legal basis for the inauguration of both state leaders of the next five years which was based on people’s choice. “As MPR, we would read excerpt from the determination of elected President and Vice President of 2019,” said MPR speaker, Bambang Soesatyo, at the House building in Jakarta.
Afterwards, the Supreme Court Chief Justice Hatta Ali first swore in the elected president Joko Widodo according to Islamic tradition. The president also recited his oath, which is the promise to lead the state in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations. This was also the case with the Vice President-elect Ma’ruf Amin whose oath was also taken in Islamic tradition with the promise of leading in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
After both of them had recited their oath of office as President and Vice President, MPR then inaugurated them as head of state that will lead Indonesia for the next five years.
“Today, Indonesia is starting a new chapter in the leadership of the nation and state,” said Bambang.
It was reported that the route that the elected President and Vice President had to go through to the House building was secured by personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and mass organizations (Ormas). Such measure was taken because the inauguration was attended by national and international prominent figures.
It was recorded that there were 17 representatives from a number of countries attending the inauguration of President and Vice President, among others from Laos, Eswatini, Cambodia, Australia, China, the United States, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Brunei, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, and Suriname.
There were also the nation’s important figures, such as the 6th President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the 5th President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarno Putri, ministers of Jokowi-JK Cabinet, political party leaders, House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Puan Maharani, and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker La Nyalla Mattalitti.
