Jakarta, InfoPublik- Home Ministry’s Inspector General Tumpak Simanjuntak said the change in the name of Toba Samosir Regency (Tobasa), North Sumatra, to Toba Regency was final.
"All discussions have been concluded, the name of Toba Samosir Regency will be officially changed to Toba Regency in the near future," said Tumpak, in a written statement on Monday (14/10/2019).
The change was first introduced after a there was a misallocation of central government assistance. The assistance was intended for Toba Samosir Regency. However, owing to the similarity of the name, Samosir Regency was listed as the recipient for the assistance. “In fact, Tobasa should have been listed as the recipient,” he explained.
He further explained that the proposal for the change was his personal initiative. Subsequently, the idea was communicated to Tobasa regent Darwin Siagian who was very much in agreement.
"Hopefully, by the end of this year, at Tobasa’s 21st Anniversary, the name of will officially be changed to Toba Regency," Tumpak concluded. (Reporter: Eko Budiono, Translator: Erik Limantara)
