Home Minister appeals for Jakarta new deputy governor

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo appealed to Jakarta governor and Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) to fill the position of deputy governor.

Tjahjo added that Home Minister is not in a position to push immediate appointment of deputy governor but he could appeal for it.

"I have reminded the governor and DPRD by official letter. But, I cannot force them because there is a mechanism provided for that matter," said the Minister in a written statement on Monday (11/26).

He iterated that he was not willing to comment whether the vacancy of the deputy governor's position could exert negative impact on the performance of Jakarta administration.

"A deputy governor assistance will surely be able to ease governor's workload. In result, he will deliver a faster and more effective performance," he said.

He hoped the political parties would immediately elect the new deputy governor because the previous local election voted for a pair of leaders.

Previously, Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno resigned because he decided to run in the 2019 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
