Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia General Election Commission (KPU) claimed to find 795,000 duplicate voter names out of 185 million names registered in the final voter list (DPT).
KPU commissioner Viryan Aziz asserted that the number of duplicate voter names will decrease after conducting thorough examination.
"We want this problem to be settled in the regional level. Several provincial KPUs have arrived at central KPU office to conduct coordination to solve and examine this matter," Viryan said in his written statement on Saturday (9/15).
Viryan further explained that his office, representatives of political parties, and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) had met to clean up the duplicate voter data.
"Our internal data shows that the amount of duplicate voter names is under 1 million, and verification is being undertaken," he said.
Viryan added almost all provincial KPUs had had DPT recapitulation meetings in provincial level.
"There are still several KPUs that have not completed the recapitulation because they still have to go through some processes to improve the data," he concluded. (Reporter: Eko Budiono, Translator: Erik Limantara)
