Jakarta, InfoPublik - Head of National Legal Development Agency, Enny Nurbaningsih, denied that the progress in revising the Law Number 15 Year 2003 on Combating Terrorism has been slow. The revision began in 2016 and is still going on until now.

“The progress may be considered slow but we are not sluggish. It requires caution. In terrorism, we take the victims and compensation, among others, into consideration. This is a complete and comprehensive package," said Enny as broadcasted by a Jakarta TV station, Tuesday (5/15).

She explained the comprehensive provisions of the law proscribe the law enforcement officers to act in an arbitrary fashion as happened in the New Order era owing to 'the stipulation of special supervision'.

The special supervision is to be undertaken by National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). "We give wider authority to BNPT. BNPT answers directly to the President," said Enny.

She also confirmed that the progress of the revision of the aforementioned law has reached 99 percent. She is optimistic that the law will soon be passed by the House of Representatives during this parliamentary session. "We hope the deliberation of the law will conclude in the next two days, Wednesday and Thursday," she added. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
