Jakarta, InfoPublik - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights HE Zaid Ra'ad Al Hussein and team visited the office of The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta, Monday (2/5).
Zaid and team were received directly by Komnas HAM Chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik, Vice Chairman of External Sector Sandrayati Moniaga, Coordinator of Subcommission on Education and Counseling Beka Ulung Hapsara, Coordinator of Subcommission on Monitoring and Investigation Amiruddin Al Rahab, Commissioner on Assesment and Research M. Choirul Anam and Commissioner on Mediation Munafrizal Manan.
Ahmad Taufan Damanik stated that the meeting discussed the human rights situation in Indonesia and a number of strategic human rights issues.
"The recent condition of past human rights abuses and the rampant agrarian cases and conflicts over the past few years that happened mainly due to the intensity of infrastructure development and investment in Indonesia," he said.
In addition, the meeting also discussed the issue of extremism and the practice of violence it resulted and the strengthening of Komnas HAM institutions and its conditions at the momentum of 25 years of Komnas HAM.
He also stressed that in relation to the current human rights condition, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights HE Zaid Ra'ad Al Hussein is proud of Komnas HAM's faith and commitment to continue working on human rights issues in Indonesia.
"Today there is no recommendation whatsoever (from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights HE Zaid Ra'ad Al Hussein), only the main input that comes from his own experience in the Middle East. He expressed his conviction that commitment is the main factor to solve the problem," he concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
