Preventing Local Election Vulnerability, Bawaslu Prepares IKP

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesian Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) will maximize prevention and supervision efforts to minimize the potential vulnerability on Simultaneous Local Elections in 2017.

"Bawaslu has finished conducting research related to Election Vulnerability Index (IKP), particularly concerning the local elections 2017. This is another step taken by Bawaslu in mapping areas that may be potentially vulnerable," said Head of Bawaslu RI Nasrullah in his office on Saturday (8/20).

According to him, IKP will be published to public at the end of August 2016. He said Bawaslu has also coordinated with a number of stakeholders such as the Police and the Attorney General’s Office.

"We will cooperate with various parties in order to secure the Simultaneous Local Elections 2017," he added.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto appreciated the efforts made by Bawaslu. "What has Bawaslu conducted is appropriateand accurate. Bawaslu has made prevention and repression concept which is certainly a very tough job," he said.

Simultaneous Local Elections in 2017 will be held in seven provinces, 76 districts and 18 cities. The seven provinces are including Aceh, Bangka Belitung, DKI Jakarta, Banten, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, and West Papua. The 76 districts among others are Mesuji, Lampung Barat, Tulang Bawang, Bekasi, Banjarnegara, Batang, Jepara, Pati, Cilacap, and Brebes. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
