Jakarta, InfoPublik- The 3rd Asian Electoral Stakeholders Forum (ASEF) is expected to contribute to the success of the elections in Asia.
"Indonesia has proven a good collaboration between elections organizers and social group. Social groups supported not only in implementation of the stages of election, but also the legitimacy of the elections," said General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairman, Juri Ardiantoro, after ASEF opening in Ballroom Discovery Kartika Hotel, Bali, Indonesia (8/23).
According to Mr. Ardiantoro, election not only belongs to the election organizer but also a real involvement of civil society. "Community involvement is absolutely necessary in creating quality elections," he said.
He hoped that the 3rd AESF can encourage the realization of inclusive or open election. Meanwhile, Asian Network for Free Elections (Anfrel) Chairman Damaso G. Magbual said that Indonesia is the best example in terms of cooperation between elections organizers and civil society organizations.
“In Indonesia, election results from over 600,000 polling stations are published in KPU’s website, it is very transparent,” said Mr. Magbual, in Bali (8/23). "We put Indonesia’s election transparency as an example to apply in the Philippines," he said.
The 3rd ASEF is held from 22 to 26 August 2016 in Bali and is attended by 197 participants from 36 countries, including election organizers, national and international election campaigners, and academia. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
