Jakarta, InfoPublik – Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo expected political parties in Jakarta to submit their gubernatorial candidates for the 2017 Jakarta regional election.
If they do not submit their candidates, the Jakarta election will have the same fate with the elections in Blitar, North Timor Tengah, and Tasikmalaya which was only followed by one pair of candidates.
"I wish that all of those parties do not merge as one coalition party. If it happens, Jakarta elections will have only one pair of candidate,” Minister Kumolo said in Jakarta on Saturday (3/12)
According to the Minister, it will become a better election if followed by more than one pair of candidates.
He asserted that the people of Jakarta will have several options to determine the best figure to lead Jakarta for the next five years. He also added that the head of the region should be promoted or supported by political parties.
"If a political party nominates someone to be a governor, and along the tenure the governor made mistakes, then the party will be also responsible,” he said.
