Jakarta, InfoPublik - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Susi Pudjiastuti, emphasized that the ruling government is not a budget-spending government.

"The regime is not a budget-spending regime. Last year, the government suffered a deficit of Rp290 trillion. This time, I ask the whole team of the Ministry to see which programs should be targeted and prioritized,” said Minister Pudjiastuti in Jakarta, Thursday (2/25).

Furthermore, she added, in a government administration, there should be a balance between income and expenditure. "I'm sure everybody has a good logic. If your logic is good, your command sense will also be good. Many people say that since the Ministry was led by Susi, it turns into a private company. What else can I do? Running a government should be similar to running a company. If there is no balance, the people will get the impact,” she said.

She assessed that the Ministry’s performance is good and shows improvement. She also believes that the Ministry will be able to be a role model in the Working Cabinet.

"I organise this Retreat event to give input for my analysis. I believe we can be a model for the Working Cabinet to create effective and efficient programs. Which one should accept government’s assistance and which one shouldn’t. It’s not because someone is a former director general or a former minister or an entrusted person, he can take the advantage easily,” she said.

The Ministry’s spirit continues to be internalized into the whole staffs by the Minister. She hoped that the Ministry can continue to make changes and breakthroughs for Indonesia.

"There will be a second level of Susinization [Susi management style] in the Working Cabinet. Well, we are not doing Susinization, but this is how the ministry works. Now, we have to make changes,” she said. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
