Central Lombok, InfoPublik - At the National Press Day (HPN) 2016 celebration, President Joko Widodo criticized the media's performance and urged them to report news that grow people’s optimism.

Nowadays, the public is very fortunate to be living in the era of press freedom. Information can be obtained from various media. "Sometimes status update in social media can be a story," said President Jokowi in his speech at the HPN 2016 in Kuta Beach in Mandalika Special Economic Zone, West Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday (2/9).

“The information presented is diverse. There is bad information and there is also good. But, there is also disturbing information."

He expected all press professionals participate in boosting the development and growing people’s optimism. "I just think of how all media professionals participate in boosting the development, growing public optimism, building public work ethics, and increasing people’s productivity—not the other way around," he said.

"Sometimes the media influence us, grow pessimism, and love sensational news especially when it is mixed with experts’ comments. It will be ‘getting hot’," he concluded. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
