Posts and Telecommunications Sector Plays Significant Role in Handling Covid-19

Jakarta, InfoPublik—Minister of Communications and Informatics Jhonny G. Plate stated that the posts and telecommunications sector plays an important role in overcoming the health crisis and national economic recovery during the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic, as the sector offers alternatives for people to stay involved in various productive activities while staying safe from the outbreak.

"Recognizing such demand, the Government establishes a big agenda on the acceleration of national digital transformation which must be implemented immediately," said Jhonny G Plate on the commemoration of the 75^th anniversary of Bhakti Postel Day at the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Jakarta, Monday (28/09).

In its efforts to support overcoming the outbreak and restoring the national economy, the Ministry applies four approaches, first, completing the development of high quality telecommunication and informatics infrastructure that is evenly distributed throughout the country.

Second, the development and adoption of new technologies to build an integrated and secure digital ecosystem. "Currently, the people in all corners of the country, especially in the 3T region are expecting internet deployment, the availability of wifi at sufficient speed, to take them move towards digital transformation," said the Minister.

Third, the development of sustainable human resources or digital talent in adequate and quantity and quality; and four, the completion of primary legislation in the field of telecommunications, informatics and personal data protection, followed by strengthening of international collaboration in the digital economy and cross-border data flow.

"Currently, the political process in completing the important legal umbrella for the primary legislation is underway," said the Minister.

According to him, the various policies and national agendas require extraordinary support from all parties. "The key in implementing the digital transformation is synergy and collaboration between the government and all parties," he said.

The Minister expressed his highest appreciation as well as his deep gratitude to all the staffs and officials in the posts and telecommunications sector, both in government and non-government circles.
