KPK Chairman Appreciates the Arrest of Suspected Novel Baswedan Attackers

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Firli Bahuri highly appreciated the Indonesian National Police (Polri) for successfully arresting alleged perpetrators of attack against KPK senior investigator Novel Baswedan.

In an official statement received by InfoPublik, Saturday (28/12), KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri said not only should all parties including KPK appreciate the performance of the National Police, but also should respect and fully support them over this long-awaited case.

"I, as the leader of KPK, would like to express my highest appreciation to the entire Indonesian National Police force. I would also congratulate General Idham Azis for the success," he said.

According to Firli, he cannot comment further at this time on this case since at the time being he had only received information on the latest developments from the media.

Previously, the special police team managed to arrest suspected perpetrators of acid attack on KPK senior investigators Novel Baswedan, last Thursday (26/12).

Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) chief Insp. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo in a press conference on Friday (27/12), said that the technical team cooperated with the Mobile Brigade Corps of Depok managed to arrest the suspects identified by the initials RM and RB, both are active members of the National Police.

Novel Baswedan was attacked on 11 April 2017 by two unidentified men on motorbikes who threw acid on his face as he was returning home from morning prayer at Al Ihsan Mosque, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. As a result, novel's eyes were severely injured and had to undergo eye surgery in Singapore.
