Jakarta, InfoPublik – On Jan. 20, 2018, Indonesia and Japan marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries that began on Jan. 20, 1958. Cooperation in various sectors will be enhanced, including co-hosting the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
This event is a part of cooperation in commemorating the 60 years of relationship. Furthermore, Indonesia will host the 2018 Asian Games and the 2020 Olympic will take place in Japan. Both countries will help each other to succeed the two major sports events.
Toshihiro Nikai, the Secretary General of Japan’s ruling party Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), led the Japanese Parliament delegation to meet his counterpart. Meanwhile, Indonesian House of Representatives’ Bilateral Cooperation Group (GKSB DPR) was led by Aryo Djojohadikusumo. Both delegations met at DPR building in Jakarta, Friday (1/19).
"There will be a massive celebration held by the Japanese Government in cooperation with the Indonesian Government. The Secretary General of LDP wants to emphasize even better cooperation to strengthen Japan-Indonesia parliamentary relationship. In 2018 Asian Games, several Japanese companies will help Indonesia in anti-terrorism security measure," said Aryo after the meeting.
Both delegations exchanged ideas and experiences to succeed the parliamentary relation. Besides sports events, the meeting discussed the cooperation in education.
Aryo said that the number of Indonesian students studying in Japan and vice versa was still low. "The number of Indonesian students studying in Japan is still low compared to Vietnam and Nepal. We want to increase the number of Indonesian students studying there and Japanese students studying in here," said the politician from the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party.
