MCIT urges village heads in Tasikmalaya to spread positive information in internet

Tasikmalaya, InfoPublik - Communications and Information Technology Ministry’s (MCIT) director general for public information and communications Rosarita Niken Widiastuti expected village heads in Tasikmalaya Regency could disseminate positive information through social media.

"There is a lot of negative information circulating in the internet. Therefore, the village heads need to give digital literacy to the community and explain that using the internet, especially social media, is for spreading positive things," she said in the opening of Jokowi-JK’s Three Years Administration Dissemination Event in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, Sunday (12/10).

She stated that the event under the theme “Build Villages, Villages Build” could serve as a digital literacy medium for the people.

Niken expected the village heads to keep on optimizing village funds for the development of internet network infrastructure, especially through MCIT’s program called Integrated Broadband Village. According to Niken, one of the objectives of providing internet access in Tasikmalaya Regency was to be a medium to promote local products.

"We could convey and spread a lot of positive information. In addition, Tasikmalaya’s local products such as processed milk, livestock, agricultural products, and local tourism spots can be promoted through social media," she said.

Nevertheless, Niken reminded the village heads to be more careful and vigilant in using social media because some people often spread negative things like hoaxes and hate speeches.

Therefore, the village heads could conduct digital literacy in their respective communities. "However, it is also necessary for you to be careful because there are many groups that oppose Pancasila and the Constitution that use social media," she concluded.

The event was attended by, among others, the regent of Tasikmalaya, MCIT’s information processing and provision director, Telecommunication and Information Technology Funding Provision and Management Agency (BP3TI) director, Tasikmalaya’s Legislative Council speaker, special staff of the Presidential Staff Office, and 351 village heads across Tasikmalaya Regency.
