Jakarta, InfoPublik - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto stated that the number of approved laws in the national legislation program (Prolegnas) could not be seen as a performance indicator.
"The DPR performance cannot only be measured from the Prolegnas target achievement," said Setya Novanto at the Parliament Building in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/29).
The most important thing to do after the laws’ enactment, Setya continued, is to ensure their smooth implementation in the public. Excessive regulation will bring about negative impact in Indonesia that implements democratic governance system.
"For an established democratic state, over regulation must be averted," he added.
According to Setya, all legislations shall not necessarily regulate comprehensively everything. It can be done partially in accordance with the need of the people, so the legislation approval process will be more effective and efficient.
"In the future, legislation planning at DPR should not be based on time target," he said. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
