Jakarta, InfoPublik – National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) is monitoring the development on the revision of the Law on Terrorism.
Komnas HAM chairman Nur Kholis said Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) can be involved in combating terrorism as the last resort as stipulated in Article 7 Paragraph 2 of Law Number 34 Year 2004 on TNI. “Combating terrorism is important for the sake of democracy, law, and human rights,” he said.
"Terrorism is a serious crime. It affects human psyche because of its cruel nature, large number of life and property lost, and long-term psychological effect on the victims as well as the witnesses," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/30).
He underlined that terrorism violate the rights of the victims and their families as well as the communities, especially the right to live which cannot be reduced under any circumstances by anyone and the right of security.
"The state should protect the right to live and the right on the security of everyone within its jurisdiction, including from terrorism threat," he said.
