Jakarta, InfoPublik - President Joko Widodo congratulated the winner of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2017, Dawit Isaak,who was represented by his daughter Bethlehem Isaak at the peak event of World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2017.

"Congratulation to Guilermo Cano awardee who was represented by Bethlehem,” said President Joko Widodo while addressing audience of the Guillermo Cano award at  Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday (5/3).

President Joko Widodo entered JCC Assembly Hall  at 7 pm, accompanied by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Minister Rudiantara, Indonesian Press Council Chairman Yosep Adi Prasetio, and Timor Leste Former President Ramos Horta.

The President and entourage were greeted with Rampai Dance, an energetic traditional dance from Nangroe Aceh Darussalam Province (NAD).

Since 1997, UNESCO has been annually awarding Guillermo Cano Priza,  an award to honor journalist or media organization anywhere in the world that has made an outstanding contribution to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom especially when this has been achieved in the face of intimidation, threat, and even death.

The Press award is named after Guillermo Cano Isaza, a Colombian journalist who was killed by drug mafia on December 17, 1986 in Bogota. He was killed in barrage of bullets in front of his office the El Espectador media . (Reporter Tri Antoro /Translator:Sugiarti)
