Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has made various measures to fight the spread of false or hoax news, among others are the launching of the anti-hoax movement and the content complaint application.
It was pointed out by MCIT’s Information and Public Communication director general Rosarita Niken Widiastuti at the World Press Freedom Day’s (WPFD) discussion on "Media and Information Literacy as a Bulwark Against Hate Speech".
The discussion session was a part of the WPFD 2017 commemoration held at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Wednesday (5/3) and attended by national and international journalists and media practitioners.
"We have the anti-hoax movement. Through this movement, we want to empower public to be able to identify, recognize and avoid hoaxes,” she said.
Anti-hoax movement events have been organized in various areas in Indonesia, she continued, adding that the event was performed by disseminating information to public through local tradition such as cultural performances, entertainment stages, and gymnastics.
In addition, MCIT also launches an application for reporting complaints on websites that spread and publish hoax news and stories.
"Public can go toTurnBackHoax.id to complaint about those hoax spread websites," she concluded.
It is expected that through the application, public could report websites that spread and produce disturbing hoax news and stories to the government. (Reporter: Tri Antoro, Translator: Rina Alexandra)
