I will be the First Person to Guard Press Freedom in Indonesia: MCIT Minister

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia Communications and Information Technology minister Rudiantara stated his readiness to guard the freedom of press in Indonesia as long as the content published are within the corridor of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"I will be the first person to always support and protect the freedom of press in Indonesia as long as it is in line with the NKRI corridor," said MCIT Minister Rudiantara at World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2017 Media Center at  Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday (3/5).

The Minister promised that MCIT will not interfere in any criticism published by journalists. He believed the journalistic code of ethics will guide the journalists to create content that prioritize NKRI.

"The government will not intervene, because we trust in the code of ethics adhered by the journalists," he added.

May 3, the date which celebrates the World Press Freedom Day happens to be the birthday of MCIT minister. He blew his birthday candles in front of domestic and foreign journalists, as well as staff members of MCIT who gathered at  Media Center.

Before cutting tumpeng (cone-shaped steamed rice) that had been prepared for his birthday, the Minister gave explanation on how to cut the cone rice properly, in accordance to the tradition.
