Cambodia Optimistic WPFD 2017 Will Generate Strategy to Protect Journalist

Jakarta, InfoPublik - President of the Cambodian Association for the Protection of Journalists (CAPJ) Um Sarin is optimistic that the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2017 held on 1 - 4 May 2017 in Jakarta will produce a new strategy to protect journalists.

"I believe the attendance of all journalists and stakeholders in WPFD 2017 will bring an important contribution in improving the safety and security of journalists," said Sarin at Merak 1 Room, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), on Tuesday (2/5). 

According to Sarin, violence against journalist in several Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and the Philippines remains high.

"All parties must be committed in protecting journalists exercising their duties, particularly in several Southeast Asian countries where the number of journalists who fall victims to violence is fairly high," he explained.

He said every country has a different policy in protecting the profession of journalists.

"WPFD 2017 is an important forum to ensure the freedom of press across the world gets the careful attention," he added. (Reporter: Eko Budiono, Translator: Siti Chodijah)
