Jakarta, InfoPublik - A photo exhibition entitled "80 years in 80 photo: Chronicling Indonesia in Images Since 1937" is expected to motivate Indonesian journalists to increase their qualification.
The photo exhibition is a series of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2017 events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s oldest news agency, the National News Agency (LKBN) Antara. Photographs on display are about journalists’ freedom in Indonesia from 1937 to the present.
"I hope this photo exhibition can encourage Indonesian journalists to become better in the future," LKBN Antara Director Meidyatama Suryodiningrat said at the opening of the exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Tuesday (5/2).
This exhibition, he continued, is a historical witness that should be shared to Indonesian journalists so they would understand various information related to the code of ethics.
"Indonesians understand the value of expression but also the rights of journalists," he said.
Press Council chairman Yosep Adi Prasetio also explained that photo is one of the important factors in journalistic activities, because it records various historical momentum. It is also important for foreign journalists to know about Indonesian press history.
"Today, information without a photo means hoax. We really appreciate the exhibition made by Antara, because it can give international journalists a bit of Indonesia’s press history throughout the time,” he said. (Reporter: Tri Antoro, Translator: Rina Alexandra)
