Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia’s House of Representatives Commission IV Deputy Chairman Daniel Johan urged the government to boost premium rice production by the use oftechnology, in order to realize government’s plan for exports.
"It is possible for us to export rice when production increase is maintained or boosted through various technologies. In 2016 alone, the production reached 79 million tons," said Daniel Johan, Monday (4/24).
Daniel Johan pointed out, that with Hazton technology, for instance, farmers' rice production is increased by three or four tons per hectare with 10.7 tons per hectare.
"In Sambas regency for example, 10 thousand hectares area applying the hazton technology gained additional 30 thousand or 40 thousand tons production in only single planting season," he explained.
Daniel Johan admitted that Commission IV has urged the government to continue the application of Hazton technology, especially in West Kalimantan province. In 2016, West Kalimantan received an allocation of approximately 44,600 hectares to apply Hazton technology and this year is expected to increase the number to 60 thousand hectares.
"If there is an increase in productivity per hectare, production will exceed the need. So it will be possible to export rice," said Daniel.
He admitted that it is not easy to convince the Ministry of Agriculture) regarding the benefits of Hazton technology.
He hopes that if the application of hazton technology result in the increase West Kalimantan production consistently in the next two or three years, it is possible that the use of technology could become a national program. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
