Jakarta, InfoPublik - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Chief Budi Waseso explained that the synergy of all agencies is needed in eradicating drugs, especially in West Kalimantan Province.
In the affidavit received by InfoPublik in Jakarta, Tuesday (4/18), Budi Waseso asserted that border areas of West Kalimantan could become porst of entry for drugs in a massive number.
BNN Data and Information Research Center recorded in 2015 that the prevalence of drug abuse in West Kalimantan is 65,203 users.
“It is a big market. Not to mention that West Kalimantan is bordered by Malaysia,” he said.
In this regards, synergy between agencies and ministries is needed, in which each agency exercie its authority and responsibility in eradicating drugs.
It was stated by BNN Chief Budi Waseso while briefing the National Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), Law and Human Rights Ministry, Customs, and representatives of Angkasa Pura offices inWest Kalimantan at West Kalimantan Provincial Police headquartrer.
He said that TNI and Polri personnel could be deployed to eradicate drugs. TNI could utilize the village supervisory non-commissioned officers (Babinsa) in disseminating information on drugs from the TNI's point of view or state resilience.
Polri, through Babinkamtibmas (police officers assigned to villages as advisors on security and public order), could also explain the danger of drugs from the legal point of view.
He continued that BNN is successful because of the synergy of all related agencies and ministries such as PPATK, Customs, TNI, Polri, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
BNN Chief hoped we could build a good synergy because drug abuse is a problem concerning all elements of the country, not only for BNN or the government. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
