Home Minister urges both sides to accept election result

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo appealed to any pair of Jakarta Governor candidate who was knocked out in the second round of the election to be able to accept the result.

"The losing pair must be legowo [accept the result]. If they are not satisfied with the result, they can bring the matter to the Constitutional Court along with the evidences. All will be protected by the law. The most important thing is to maintain public order. All supporters from both sides must also accept this result,” he said in a press release on Wednesday (4/19).

The minister is optimistic and the police are also ready to act if some unpredictable incidents happen.

He acknowledged that this year’s Jakarta gubernatorial election did not differ from the 2014 presidential election.

"This is a preparation for the next legislative election and the presidential election, and to be involved in Jakarta’s politics is natural," he added.

The second round of Jakarta gubernatorial election was followed by two pairs of candidate, namely Basuki Tjahaja Purnama with Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan with Sandiaga Uno. (Translator: Rina Alexandra)
