Jakarta, InfoPublik - Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo stated that five issues in the revision of the General Election Organization Law will be discussed by the government and the House of Representatives (DPR). The issues are the election system, parliamentary threshold, the requirements for president and vice president candidates, the number of electoral regions, and the mechanism for converting votes into legislative seats.
"Essentially, we all agree to establish a robust and standardized system for a multiparty presidential system,” Minister Tjahjo stated in his press release on Tuesday (2/21).
He said that the reason government took these measurements is not only to consider the parties’ sovereignty, but also to accommodate people’s aspiration.
He added the decision has not been taken yet right now. However, he underlined that there are still two or three options available, and these will also be proposed to the working committee. (Translator: Rina Alexandra)
