Jakarta, InfoPublik - The candidate pairs who passed the first round of the election on February 15 still have a chance to win the Jakarta administration’s top seat in a runoff.
"Two candidates with tight electability will try to obtain votes from those who voted for Agus," Siti Zuhro, an analyst at Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) said in Jakarta, Sunday (19/2).
According to her, the capital's gubernatorial election represented the presidential election and heated up the political situation in the country. However, politic is dynamic so that anything can happen in Jakarta election.
"Dislike toward a certain candidate does not guarantee other candidate will get the most votes," said Siti.
She expectedthat the Jakarta election, which is confirmed to be held in two rounds, will run more polite than before. “The team of both candidates should be able to show a healthy competition which emphasizes the unity of the nation.
"Jakarta election should not be like Turkish drama where political candidates attack others, religious, racial and societal group (SARA) issues and other unethical ways," Siti said. (Translator: Sugiarti)
