Bawaslu Urges Public to Enliven Elections in 100 Regions

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia Election Supervisory Board’s Chairman (Bawaslu) Muhammad stated that the regional election euphoria must not only experienced by Jakarta citizens but also citizens of other 100 regions in Indonesia.

According to him, Jakarta gubernatorial elections have always made headlines in the mass media which make it feels like a national election.

"Jakarta Regional Election has stolen a national spotlight. Do not let this make people ignore the regional elections in their regions," said Muhammad, in a press release on Sunday (29/1).

Muhammad admitted there is a rising turmoil in Jakarta gubernatorial election of 2017. He explained that until the campaign stages, Bawaslu keeps receiving reports from each candidate.

He emphasized that his administration received the average of three reports everyday regarding each pair of candidates.

He added that the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu Center) is an effective measure to take action against election violations. "Gakkumdu Center which consists of Bawaslu, Indonesian Police and Attorney General Office will optimize its effort in prosecuting election violations," he said.

Indonesia General Elections Commission (KPU) will hold simultaneous elections on 15 February 2017 in 101 areas; including 7 provinces, 76 regencies, and 18 cities. (Translator: Siti Chodijah)
