Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia House of Representatives (DPR) election bill special committee has asked the Information and Communication Technology Ministry (MCIT) to work optimally in anticipating the provocative social media users ahead of the elections.
"MCIT has not been able to follow the pace of social media," the special committee head Muhammad Lukman Edy said in Parliament building, Jakarta, Wednesday (1/25).
Currently, according to Edy, the impact of social media outweighs the online media, therefore, MCIT need to work hard to fight those provocative social media users.
Germany, for example, has enacted a law to impose fines on provocative social media users. This can be used as a reference by the MCIT and other executive ranks to handle those users. “Germany has imposed fines on provocative media social users,” he added.
He hoped that MCIT together with DPR are able to formulate rules and regulations related to the use of social media in the time of election.
"We do not yet have regulations about social media. This is something we must discuss. About how to manage these social media bustles," said Edy. (Translator: Rina Alexandra)
