Jakarta, InfoPublik - The government will focus on public facilities and economic development in the border region.

"Year 2017 is (time) to build economic zones. In order to grow we will build the markets, community health centers (Puskesmas), cooperatives, state-owned companies, and banks branches, " said Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo in his office, Monday (23/1).

According to the Minister, the development program in border regions ran optimally during Jokowi-JK’s 2-year-governance. Infrastructures in border region have improved, such as the construction of Cross-Border Post (PLBN).

"The Ministry of Public Works has done a great job in working the projects these past two years,” he said. He added that the government will involve Indonesian military in enhancing defense in border regions. This measure is aimed to monitor illegal activities and protect the regions.

"The key of State defense lies in the border regions. We cannot let illegal drugs pass, or foreigners enter without control. There are many vulnerable spots at the borders for drug and weapon trafficking," he added. (Translator: Siti Chodijah)
