Komnas HAM Proposes Regional Election with Human-Right-Perspective

Jakarta, InfoPublik - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) is concerned to ensure that the Simultaneous Regional Election in February 2017 would be implemented in accordance with the principles of human rights.

Those priciples are the guaranteed people’s voting rights and the realization of conducive condition related to policies on addressing racial and ethnical discrimination practice. “In order to ensure this, strategic coordination and cooperation are being developed between the General Elections Commission (KPU), Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Indonesian Police (POLRI), and the Indonesian Military (TNI),” said Komnas HAM spokeperson Eva Nila Sari, in the affidavit received by InfoPublik, Sunday (11/27).

According to Eva, Komnas HAM is going to deliver the results and mutual agreement on Monday (11/28) at Komnas HAM office. A number of speakers attending the meeting includine Siane Indriani (Monitoring and Supervision Sub-commission Coordinator of Komnas HAM), Prof. Dr.Muhammad, S.IP, M. Si (KPU Commissioner and Chairman of Bawaslu), Brig. Gen. Raja Erizman (National Police Head of Legal Division) and a number of representatives from the TNI.

The second stage of the Simultaneous Regional Election would take place on February 2017 in 101 regions, including 7 provinces (Aceh, Bangka Belitung, DKI Jakarta, Banten, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi and West Papua), 76 districts, and 18 cities. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
