Jakarta, InfoPublik – Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) collaborated with the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI) gave the Indonesia Communication Award (AKI) to public communication activists and institutions in Makassar, Wednesday (10/12).

The individual recipients of AKI 2016 were Ramses Ohee from Papua for Public Communication Activist on the Field of Nationality Communication Category, Prof. Hendra Gunawan from Bandung for Public Communication Activist on the Field of Educational Communication Category, Edi Fadhil from Banda Aceh for Public Communication Activist on the Field of Social Communication Category, and Prof. Yunus Sabi from Banda Aceh for Public Communication Activist on the Field of Peace Communication Category.

Whereas, the institutional recipients of AKI 2016 were SLOKA INSTITUTE from Denpasar for Public Communication Institution on the Field of Empowering Communication Category, RUANG ANTARA from Makassar for Public Communication Institution on the Field of Media Literacy Category, and Communication Information Group (KIM) Mekarjaya from Bandung for Public Communication Institution on the Field of Social Communication Category.

According to MCIT’s Information and Public Communication  Director General Rosita Niken Widyastuti, the award was very important because communication is a form of interaction to convey messages. The process would be beneficial if the message is informative, educative, and appropriate, as well as correctly conveyed.

“Recently, ICT advances do not necessarily make people become proficient in performing communication activities, evidenced by a social phenomenon in the community where people spread information to create conflict. It happens because the information is unbalanced,” said Niken.

Niken continued that the award recipients, both individuals and institutions, are selected for their abilities to convey positive messages and to be beneficial, inspirational, and are able to practise other communication activities for the surrounding people and environment.

“So, this award is a stimulus to generate the spirit of smart and qualified dissemination of information through the media in public space. The main objective is to maintain the national stability,” she concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
